The Association of Muslim Health Students, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (AHMS-UDUS) on Sunday, 18th of February, 2026 organized a quiz competition at New Lecture Hall of the School of Medical Laboratory Science to promote medical and islamic knowledge as well as foster unity among Muslim medical students.

The competition, conducted in a structured, team-based format, drew participants from various faculties and departments in college ranging from MLS, MBBS/BDS, College of Community Health, Radiography, Nursing Sciences, College of Nursing UDUTH and Nutrition and Dietetics.

With questions designed to test clinical knowledge, general health awareness, and Islamic ethics, the quiz featured questions from Seerah, Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, Aqeedah, General Knowledge and basic medical knowledge.

Asides the quiz being a test for medical and islamic knowledge, it also served a platform for fostering unity among students in college as students from different departments converged, interacted freely, and supported one another throughout the competition.

One of the judges, Dr. Rufai Abiodun Idrees from the Department of Pediatric discussed an issue during the competition break that he considered unworthy for Muslims.

He expressed surprise at the habit of not greeting him by some students who are not from his department.

“I was surprised to see that Muslim students from departments other than mine often would not greet me because I am not from the same department as them. This signals a sense of constant competition among us and as Muslim, we should always be united, just as the prophet encouraged, he explained.

At the end of the competition, the School of Medical Laboratory Science took the first position with 20 points, with Medicine and Surgery trailing behind with 18 points and College of Community Health taking the third position with 15 points.

To honor their achievement, awards were presented to the top two teams by one of the esteemed judges, Abu Salamah.

In the spirit of encouragement a sum of ₦10,000 was given to participants from the Department of Nursing Sciences by one of the judge after answering a seemingly challenging question. Other participants were also recognized for their efforts and were presented with certificates of participation.

Speaking with our correspondent at Gamji Press, one of the students in attendance, Abdullah from the Department of Nursing Sciences gave his remark about the competition.

“This quiz reminded us that despite our department, we all share the same faith and purpose. It was refreshing to learn, compete, and grow together as Muslim medical students, ” he said.

A cross-section interaction with other participants had them commending the organizers for such initiative that aims to foster growth and unity among students in college.
